About the gastroenterology department

The gastroenterology outpatient department at Mariánské Lázně Hospital provides comprehensive treatment for patients with diseases of the digestive tract from the esophagus to the anus, including the gallbladder and pancreas. Part of the care is also modern endoscopic diagnostics, which allows examination of the digestive tract using video endoscopes. We also care for patients with non-specific intestinal inflammation - Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, liver diseases, chronic inflammation of the pancreas, diverticular disease, celiac disease. Our deparment uses the available hospital complement - laboratory, X-ray, USG and CT examination.

We offer diagnosis and therapy of diseases of the digestive tract using the following methods:

Gastroscopy: endoscopic examination of the upper part of the digestive tract, i.e. the esophagus, stomach and duodenum with the possibility of biopsy, polypectomy, diagnosis of the presence of Helicobacter pylori infection, stopping of bleeding, extraction of foreign bodies.

Colonoscopy: endoscopic examination of the anus, large intestine and terminal ileum (the end of the small intestine) with the possibility of biopsy, polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection, stopping of bleeding.

CT virtual colonoscopy: examination of the large intestine designed to detect polyps and colon cancers in the event that the optical colonoscopy is incomplete, intolerable, contraindicated, or refused by the patient. This method is reliable for detecting larger polyps (over 5 mm) and colon cancers. The examination is carried out using a CT machine, the disadvantage is the impossibility of treatment directly in the intestine, it is not possible to take a sample of suspicious tissue for histological examination.

Information for the patients:

The last patient will be treated 30 minutes before the end of office hours.
